MEET AND GREET GUIDE

This is a collection of all of my tips, as well as every other tip that I could find online.

*Please be advised that following these steps does not guarantee a M&G. It increases your chances of being noticed, but cannot ensure you'll be chosen.

HOW IT WORKS

PRESHOW M&G

Most fans who are chosen for this are personally selected by Taylor. Although, some fans have been invited by TN (Taylor Nation - her management team), usually seen and selected from outside of the venue. For those selected online, a DM is sent to the fan by TN. After this, they’ll call and “confirm” you. There will be an envelope at will call for you to pick up which contains your M&G invitation. You’re escorted into the M&G room and it varies but most fans typically get 2-10 minutes with Taylor. There are snacks and drinks for you to have and a polaroid/photo booth to take photos. Taylor used to do personalized autographs but now has pre-signed 8 x 11” photos. Fans are handed one as they exit the M&G area. This is also the M&G where press, media, celebrities, and contest winners meet Taylor!

AFTERSHOW M&G

This is the main M&G that I help people to get into! These fans are mainly selected by Taylor Nation. However, sometimes Taylor will give her team fans info/picture and send them into the crowd to find them. Only around 20-40 fans are selected to meet Taylor after the show. As Taylor typically isn’t on a deadline, fans tend to get more one-on-one time with her. You’re looking at approximately 10 minutes! I will go into more detail about getting picked for this M&G later.

SECRET SESSIONS

Taylor will invite around 100 fans to her home for a listening party. She explains each track on the upcoming album and plays it for them. They get to experience it a month before we do and Taylor trusts us to not leak anything. There’s food, snacks, drinks, and dance parties. Fans get to meet Taylor, getting at least 10 minutes with her one-on-one. They also have a bag of merch that they get sent home with. All these fans are personally selected by Taylor. Taylor usually lurks these fans for months and knows details about their personal lives. This is the dream.

GET TO THE VENUE EARLY

This is important for many reasons. I always recommend going early to get merch, meet up with other fans, and walk around the venue. TN is often around, scouting out fans that they see. This along with the TN booth is a good way to get on their radar. A lot of fans who are selected to meet Taylor were spotted by TN outside/at their booth. Stadiums also bring in thousands of people, so it’s good to be early so you have a good spot in line. For previous tours, TN has had their own booth in the concourse hall where you can take photos. I strongly encourage you to go to this booth first as the lines get super long super quickly!! This also happens with the merch booth line and is why I recommend that you buy merch before the doors open. I typically arrive at the stadium before 3pm, but again I love meeting up with people.

COSTUMES

Costumes have been a tradition at Taylor’s shows since the Fearless Tour. They aren’t required to be chosen but can really help you to stand out in a crowd. I’ve personally made one for each tour that I’ve been to because they’re so much fun!!! My costume for the Rep Tour is why Taylor requested to meet me. I’ll attach some pictures of people’s costumes so you have an idea of what they can look like. Many fans opt to just wear regular outfits, so costumes help to set you apart. Larger groups (3+) are even easier to spot if you all wear costumes.

I recommend having a theme for your costume and poster. All group members should adhere to this theme so it’s easy to tell you’re part of a group. For example, a group of four is magic, madness, heaven, and sin (blank space). Or each person is a different TS era, they’re recreating her tour outfits, etc. Originality is a divisive topic, many Loft 89 accounts believe originality is crucial. I don’t think it is! 1989 Tour, for example, so MANY people dressed up as the cheerleader from the Shake It Off MV. I think doing a costume that someone has done before is totally okay! I would recommend putting your own twist on it or elevating it.

What do I mean by elevating? This is giving your costume an extra edge over others. Adding glitter, lights, glow sticks, essentially anything that will help you to stand out more. I will delve into lights later, but they used to be super popular at her shows. Supplies can take a while to arrive, so I’d recommend preparing a month before your show. I had been working on my bodysuit in April, despite my show being in August. This is because there was a lot of glitter/rhinestones to place.

Some things to draw inspiration from:

-   Song references

-   Previous eras

-   Taylor’s tour outfits

-   Her cats

-   Swiftie inside jokes

-   Previous costumes people have made

- Click here for costume photos

POSTERS

Posters are very popular, but there are a couple of problems that people commonly run into:

-   Posters are exhausting to hold up for the whole show. Many people noted super sore arms and that it wasn’t ideal for them. This is the reason why I’ve personally never made posters. I would recommend having a poster that you can secure around your body/neck. Many have had success with punching holes and putting string through them. They then place the string around their neck/body.

-   Making posters that people can’t read. Posters do not have a lot of room for text. If you put too much and it’s too small, it’s very hard to read. Keep in mind that you are trying to get Taylor and TN’s attention with this poster. If they can’t read it, there’s no point making it.

-   Putting lights around the border of your poster. If the words aren’t big enough, they will just see the outline of a rectangle in the crowd. Ideally, your words will be what is lit up or it’s large enough to view from a distance.

-   Using glow-in-the-dark posterboard or paint. Unfortunately, this never works well in a stadium. Please don’t rely on glow-in-the-dark materials as they won’t be able to read/see it well.

-   Not checking venue regulations. Most venues have a size limit for their posters, so please check the rules before you make yours. A lot of people have had to rip LED lights off or even throw their posters out because they didn’t meet regulations.

NEVER EVER mention meeting Taylor in your poster like this:

IMG_2787.JPG

NEVER EVER ASK FOR A M&G

TN wants to surprise the fans they feel deserve to meet Taylor. If M&G’s are mentioned in conversation, poster, or costume… You’re automatically no longer considered to be chosen.  Don’t be afraid to talk to TN, just don’t mention meeting Taylor.

IMG_2467.JPG

ENTHUSIASM

This is the main thing that TN is looking for. They want to choose the fans who look like they’re having the most fun! This means singing/screaming along, dancing, and showing your passion for Taylor. It is important to be mindful of those around you and to not be overly obnoxious. Don’t stand on your chair or in the aisle. Security will not be happy, and neither will anyone around you! Try to take as few videos/photos as possible so that you enjoy the concert.

Another important point is to not come off as performative. TN can tell when people only care about meeting Taylor. Your fun should be authentic and not manufactured whenever you think they’re watching you. For example, there was a group that chased TN around the venue all night. Whenever they knew they were being watched, they would go crazy and dance/scream. They did this all night and at the end, Andrea told them “I know what your end goal is, you’ve made it pretty clear”.

They were more focused on getting TN’s attention than actually enjoying the concert. Ultimately, they did pay for their tickets so it’s their choice how they spend their time. However, I wouldn’t recommend their approach.

I recommend dancing and going crazy as often as you’re able, taking breaks during Taylor’s banter in between songs. They watch people all night and select most towards the end of the show. PLEASE make sure you stay hydrated and eat beforehand so you don’t pass out/get sick. They will watch you all night to make sure that passion is maintained.

LIGHTS

Being lit up is so helpful, I cannot recommend this enough. Unfortunately, a lot of venues have restrictions on LED lights now. I’d check with your venue prior to purchasing any. If they are allowed, LED fairy lights are THE way to go. Look for the ones with battery packs. White is the most common colour and the brightest. Other people have had success with:

-   Glow sticks

-   EL wire

-   Light up jewelry

-   Neon colours/clothing

-   Glow batons

-   Using your phone as a light

Glow-in-the-dark anything sounds good in theory, but not so much in practice. Because of the other lighting in the stadium, the glow-in-the-dark just doesn’t have the dark to glow in.

DON'T FOCUS ON MEETING TAYLOR

Only 20-40 fans are selected from the crowd to meet Taylor. Some shows have had upwards of 70,000 attendees. You could be doing everything right and still not be chosen. It’s all about luck! For this reason, I don’t recommend that you think about meeting her at all during the show. I’ve heard so many stories of people who spent all night watching TN, desperately trying to get their attention. When they didn’t get picked, they were absolutely devastated. Many found that they focused more on getting chosen than enjoying the concert. I recommend going in to have fun. Remember that it’s Taylor Nation’s job to watch the crowd and not yours. If you catch their attention, they’ll come up to YOU.

MAKE THE MOST OUT OF SOCIAL MEDIA

So many of the fans that Taylor meets are found online. This includes the secret sessions, preshow M&G, and even some for the after-show M&G. It can be really helpful to try to draw some attention to yourself close to your show date. Taylor is most active on:

-   Instagram

-   Tiktok

-   Twitter

-   Tumblr (inactive)

It can be hard to get noticed online as there are so many people who are also trying to get Taylor’s attention. However, here are a couple of tips:

-   Hashtags!! These help people to find your content. People who see your post may help to tag TN and Taylor! Let’s say it’s the 1989 era again, these are the tags I would use: #1989tour #1989tourottawa #1989worldtour #taylorswift #swifties #ts #taylorswift

Or for the reputation tour: #reptour #reproom #reptourtoronto #reputationtour #taylorswift #swifties #tswift #ts

Tiktok specifically: #fyp #foryoupage #swifttok #swiftietiktok #fypage

You don’t have to use all the tags I mentioned! I just wanted to show you what they typically look like. The key point is using current hashtags that pertain to your content. If you’re going to a show, mention your city in the tag. For example, #1989tourseattle #loverfestwest #reptourstlouis #redtourvancouver. This will let TN/Taylor know where they can find you.

TAG TAYLOR AND TN

You can do this on any of the apps I mentioned previously!

Taylor’s username is usually always @taylorswift however, it is @taylorswift13 on Twitter. Taylor nation’s username is always @taylornation. You’ll be able to tell it’s the real account by checking for a blue verified checkmark. It also helps if others can comment on your post and tag them too!

POST WHEN TAYLOR DOES

You want to catch her while she’s still active online. Make a couple of posts. For TikTok, people have luck with the following:

-   Recreating Taylor’s posts

-   Using her audios

-   Stitch/Duet her posts

-   Tag her and TN

-   Her noticing viral posts

-   Using hashtags

PUT YOUR SEAT INFO IN YOUR BIO

Your section, row, and seat numbers along with your show. If you are noticed online, they'll be able to use that information to find you in the crowd.

YOU DON'T NEED 10K FOLLOWERS TO BE CHOSEN

Battery-Operated-LED-Lights-Strings.jpeg

Taylor found me on Tumblr despite never interacting with me on there before. You also don’t need a fan page to be noticed. A lot of people have personal accounts and post about Taylor casually. That is totally fine! Yes, having more followers can help in that more people can help to tag Taylor and TN. However, it is not required to be chosen.

Let’s say you’re not super active on social media at all. In that case, you will want to try to get chosen for the after-show M&G.

Every tour I offer for people to send me their costume/show info so I can repost it on my account. Then I, along with my followers, will tag Taylor and TN. Next tour, I will be offering to do this again!

DANCE AND SING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE

This is a big one but remember to take breaks! I recommend these when Taylor does her banter/videos in between songs. It gives you time to catch your breath. It is SO important to stay hydrated!!! Bring a reusable bottle or purchase one at the show that you can reuse. Fans who aren’t on top of this can collapse from dehydration. This is especially true of those in the pit areas, as you are packed in more tightly. TN watches to make sure that fans are going crazy/having fun the whole time. This is why so many fans are selected more towards the end of the show. Listen to your body- if it’s too much, take a break.

TN starts watching the crowd during the opening acts

This is the time to start dancing!! Some people have even been upgraded before the openers started because they were dancing and going crazy. It can be really helpful to know some of their songs. Just dancing and having fun will work too! TN will find a few groups and keep tabs on them throughout the night. If they continue keeping that energy up, then they will likely be invited to meet Taylor.

WHAT TN LOOKS LIKE

For the 1989 Tour, they wore black t-shirts. The Rep Tour was more challenging as they wore regular outfits. Andrea still typically wears a black shirt. They have radios and lanyards as well, so look for those!

WHERE CAN WE FIND TN

They can be found by the booths, outside the venue, and around the floor of the stadium. Andrea likes being around the soundbooth and the private seating areas (club Meredith/Olivia, where friends and family of Taylor sit).

WHAT TO TALK ABOUT WITH TN

You can talk about the show, where you’re from, how long you’ve been a fan, etc. Never mention meeting Taylor or ask for an upgrade. You’ll automatically lose your chance of being chosen. Don’t be intimidated by them, they’re really nice!

CHECK VENUE REGULATIONS

Stadiums have regulations for what can be brought in, poster sizing, and bags. Backpacks are too large for most venues. They may also have a clear bag policy, or not allow LED lights. Most will have these policies listed on their website. If you can’t find them on the site, try emailing them or calling. If you don’t meet regulations, you may be forced to bring your things back to the car or throw them out. Many people have ripped off lights because they weren’t allowed in.

TN has started randomly selecting fans for preshow meet and greet

They find fans outside of the venue and give them passes.

MEET UP WITH OTHER FANS

I’ve met so many of my closest friends through Taylor. Every tour, I make a post where everyone comments the show they’re going to. This way you can find others who are also going to your show. You may make some new friends. You could even team up with other fans and do a group costume. So many possibilities! It’s so much fun, I highly recommend it.

DON'T VIEW MEETING HER AS A COMPETITION

Being “better” does not guarantee anything. Meeting her comes down to luck, so never expect it to happen. Go in with an open mind. If it happens, that’s amazing! If it doesn’t, that’s okay too. It helps to view it this way: no you didn’t meet Taylor. But others did, and we should be happy for them.

AISLE SEATS

Aisle seats are great because you’re a lot easier to access. TN has gone through aisles to get to someone in the middle before. However, this is more rare. I recommend buying aisle seats if possible!

DON'T CHASE TN AROUND

It’s an invasion of privacy and you won’t be picked. They’ll know that you are just focused on meeting her. This may seem like a given, but unfortunately, it has happened multiple times before. Basically, TN will do rounds walking around the floor of the stadium during the show. Some people panic when they can’t see TN. They feel like they need to be in their line-of-sight 24/7 in order to be chosen. To TN, it comes off as a desperate attempt to meet Taylor. This strategy I’ve only seen work once. Even then, Andrea told them she knew what their goal was. TN finds people to keep tabs on and will check on them throughout the night. If they want to choose you, they’ll approach you.

TN HAS SENT DM'S AS LATE AS 2 HOURS BEFORE THE M&G. MAKE SURE TO CHECK YOUR PHONE REGULARLY BEFORE THE DOORS OPEN.

IF YOU'RE GOING TO SHOWS BY YOURSELF....

  - Dance enough for two people

-   Make friends with those around you! You could even team up with them and try for M&G’s as a group.

-   Make sure you have a safe way to and from the venue

-   Don’t get caught up in what others might think

I went to both of my Rep Tour shows by myself and still had a blast! You just need extra enthusiasm to make up for the fact that you’re by yourself.

IF YOU ARRIVE EARLY, YOU CAN OFTEN SEE TN WALKING AROUND THE VENUE. THEY FIND FANS TO TAKE PICTURES OF AND POST TO THEIR STORY. THEY ALSO GIVE OUT UPGRADES AT THIS TIME. BAND MEMBERS AND DANCERS WILL ALSO BE AROUND THE AREA. THEY ARE REALLY NICE AND WILL USUALLY STOP AND CHAT OR GET A PICTURE WITH YOU.

TAYLOR WILL INTENTIONALLY NOT LIKE THE POSTS OF SOME OF THE FANS SHE WANTS TO MEET. THIS IS BECAUSE SHE WANTS TO SURPRISE THEM WITH THE M&G.

TAYLOR TENDS TO LEAN TO HER RIGHT WHEN POSING FOR PICTURES. STAND ON HER RIGHT SIDE, AND SHE'LL PROBABLY LEAN HER HEAD ON YOURS!

PEOPLE HAVE HAD SUCCESS WEARING FEATHER BOAS. THEY CAN BE THROWN AROUND AND ARE GOOD FOR DRAWING ATTENTION TO YOURSELF.

TALK TO SECURITY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT CONNECTIONS THEY HAVE.

MEETING TAYLOR SWIFT AT THE REPUTATION TOUR *vlog/storytime*

this video is a cautionary tale ^^ They had the enthusiasm but were chasing Taylor’s mom around the stadium. Towards the end, she describes how miserable the concert had been. This is because her group spent the whole day following TN around and was more focused on that than Taylor. They did end up being invited to Rep Room, but I don’t recommend this approach.
